 Considering relocating to Canada? Here are the different immigration pathways;

  • Federal Economy Class
  • Provincial Economy Class
  • Business Immigration
  • Transition From Temporary To Permanent Residence
  • Family Class Sponsorship
  1. Federal Economy class

There are different categories in the Federal Economy Class but the largest is the Federal High Skilled category and it is run using the Express Entry Method.

Express Entry Method;

This is one of the famous ways to relocate to Canada. The express entry specializes in the organization and processing of applications for people that are willing to make Canada their new home and obtain Canadian permanent residence.

  • When you are ready to commence the relocation process you need to identify the status of your national occupation classification (NOC) because you are restricted to the jobs you have spent the longest time with the most experience.
  • Register and start preparations for your language test. This is so because the language test is a mandatory process to ensure you are fluent in English language or french. Endeavor to give yourself enough time to prepare ahead and not assume the questions will be simple, make research to have insight into the kind of questions that might be asked, and familiarize yourself with the right answers.
  • While preparing extensively for your language test, you might want to start preparations for your degree evaluation as this is as important as the language test. This is a process that all immigrants who got their degrees outside Canada would have to undergo to verify their degrees and when this process is completed an evaluation report will be sent to you confirming that you have been verified. The evaluation report will be needed for the commencement of your Canadian permanent residence application process.
  • The next on your to-do list should be to create an online express entry profile. Note that there is a time frame

 before you go ahead to create the profile. Ensure you have all the essential documents for the application process ready because in the process some personal information like your degree, work experience, language test score, and much other personal information will be required, be careful to give the right answers as this will be added to your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The completion of this process automatically makes you a member of the Empress Entry Poll.

  • Next is to wait for an invitation. You will be issued an Invitation To Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residency if you can reach the minimum points required. The time interval to be issued an ITA is dependent on when you complete and submit your profile and the moment you are issued your ITA you are expected to complete your Canadian permanent residency application within 60 days.
  • When your permanent residency is approved, you will get a passport request email requesting your passport. Ensure you comply within the stipulated time frame.

Bear in mind that your permanent residency approval comes with a deadline, endeavor to relocate to Canada before the time elapses because failure to do so is tantamount to the invalidation of your permanent residency.

Always update your express entry profile. Should there be changes concerning any information that was used when creating the profile, endeavor to effect the change on your profile to avoid being issued ITA based on false information as this could lead to the refusal of your application and can also get you barred for five years.

2. Provincial Nominee Program(PNP)

Every province in Canada operates its immigration program, the purpose of this is to ensure that the specific demands of each province’s labor market are met. The provincial programs are;

  • Ontario  Immigration
  • Alberta  Immigration
  • British Columbia Immigration x
  • New Brunswick Immigration
  • Manitoba Immigration
  • Prince Edward Island Immigration
  • Nova Scotia Immigration
  • Saskatchewan Immigration
  • Newfoundland Immigration

If your application for Canada permanent residency through a federal economy class was futile then you should consider a provincial nominee program for your next attempt.

3. Business Immigration

If you are a business-minded person or an entrepreneur then this option should be your first consideration. The options are:

  • Self Employed Program
  • Start-up Visa Program
  • Immigrant Investor Venture Capital (IIVC) pilot program

The business immigration programs offer Canadian permanent residence to qualified entrepreneur immigrants. They link innovative entrepreneurs with private sector investors in Canada that will help to start up their businesses.

The Immigrant Investor Venture Capital (IIVC) pilot program was designed not just for innovative entrepreneurs but entrepreneurs that have a high net worth. For any entrepreneur to apply for this program the person must be worth about $10 million or more because the applicant will invest a huge amount of money, usually not less than $2 million with no guarantee of refund in the Immigrant Investor Venture capital(IIVC) fund for 15 years.

4. Transition From Temporary To Permanent Resident

This is another option to consider when all efforts to qualify for permanent residence applications fail. Many immigrants relocate to Canada as temporary residents and transition to Permanent residents after some time.

5. Family Class Sponsorship

You can apply through family class sponsorship if you have relatives or friends in Canada that has permanent residency or a  citizen. You can be a sponsor if you can meet the requirements.

  1. You must be 18 years and above before you can be a sponsor.
  1. You are to provide proof of maximum financial support for a minimum of three (3) years.
